Photos from February

I think I might try to do posts like these more often, just a sort of compilation of recent photos. I thought they could be interesting to look back on and may prove to be a bit more spontaneous and personal than my usual posts which I take care to do more proper planning for.

You know that one thing that you always wanted and finally decided to treat yourself to and just absolutely love? That's how I feel about these tights. I'd been eyeing these House of Holland tights online for ages (honestly, years) and finally bought a pair last autumn. The skirt is one from a thrift shop which I shortened, I've had it since 2010.

This is my little bunch of plants (which, don't worry, don't live permanently in the windowsill!). I've been trying to keep my poinsettia from Xmas alive and I think it's going to need a re-potting soon as it seems to be outgrowing the tiny one it came in!

I recently painted my nails with OPI's Mad As A Hatter polish from their 2010 Alice in Wonderland collection. Such a neat glitter polish but, even with a top coat, it chips within 2-3 days, which is a bit disappointing. It could be due to age, I suppose, but I have other glitter polishes which are just as old that don't chip as easily.

Since I didn't have a Valentine this year, I decided to be my own (sort of!). I bought a bouquet (or rather, 3 bunches) of fake roses from a dollar store (for $4.50) that I just happened to be passing by one morning. And it may be silly to say but I really, really love them! I popped them in a decanter I bought last summer at a thrift shop and found them a place on my dresser!

And speaking of roses, I happened to be thumbing through the first pages of my sketchbook (which I used to use for painting) and found an unfinished painting of roses which had gotten a bit of gold glitter stuck on it, which inspired me to start an entirely new picture. I tossed this one together in about 10 minutes (perhaps you can tell?) and sprinkled a bit of glitter on it. I've always loved drawing and painting cartoon-type roses.

I've been reading this book, Russia: A Short History by Abraham Ascher for the past couple of weeks and found it incredibly interesting. I'm not of Russian heritage, but I'd been curious about Russian history for the past few years and decided to finally pick up a book covering the topic. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone new to the topic!

We've been having some quite, shall I say, mixed up weather lately. One moment it's raining, absolutely pouring, the next moment it's sunny and there are hardly any clouds in the sky. Typical Victoria spring weather. And don't get me started on the wind, I went out for a walk this afternoon and was nearly frozen/blown away.

And on Valentine's Day, mum gave me a pair of Katy Perry false eyelashes for Valentine's Day! I love the Cool Kitty style, they're wearable but still had a nice touch of drama to your look.
